NDP MP Bonita Zarrillo calls on the Liberals to stop protecting the companies fueling the housing crisis
OTTAWA — On Wednesday, NDP MP Bonita Zarrillo (Port Moody-Coquitlam) asked the Prime Minister why he was partnering with the Conservatives to help protect the companies that are fueling the housing crisis. Both the Liberals and the Conservatives teamed up to allow corporate landlords to avoid explaining why they are pricing Canadians out of their homes.
Last month, the Liberals and Conservatives joined together to give a free pass to the CEO of Starlight Investments, allowing the company to continue their unfair rent hikes in a time when more Canadians are struggling to find affordable housing than ever before.
The Liberals have partnered with Starlight and won’t risk their relationship with the company, and the Conservatives are quick to come the defence of Starlight’s CEO, who donated the maximum amount to their party this year.
Only New Democrats have the strength to stand up to this corporate greed. We are fighting to make our government work for you, not the ultra-rich.
Here is MP Zarrillo’s question:
“Starlight Investments, a corporate landlord, is targeting their tenants with unfair rent hikes.
And the Conservatives and the Liberals partnered to help Starlight’s CEO avoid coming to committee and explain why he’s pricing Canadians out of their homes.
It's no surprise because this CEO is a major donor to the Conservative party.
Why is this prime minister, like the Conservatives, protecting the companies who are fueling the housing crisis?
