NDP MPs say it’s cruel that the Conservatives would block tax relief for BC’s working-class

OTTAWA — NDP MPs for Port Moody-Coquitlam, Bonita Zarrillo, and for New Westminster-Burnaby, Peter Julian, say that Pierre Poilievre and the Conservatives owe BC families an explanation for voting no on a middle-class tax cut.
“Pierre Poilievre and the Conservatives jumped at the chance to support a seven per cent tax cut for big corporations, but then turned around and voted against relief for families, seniors and people with disabilities,” said Zarrillo. “I think that’s callous and cruel. The Conservatives and their leader owe people in Port Moody–Coquitlam an explanation.”
On Monday, the Liberals and Conservatives voted against the NDP’s plan to provide middle-class families with real relief by permanently removing the GST off essentials and broadening the $250 relief cheques to seniors and people with disabilities.
A New Democrat government would fund this tax break by making corporations who are gouging people pay more, with an excess profits tax.
“The Conservatives and their leader, Pierre Poilievre, want to give you and your family less, all to funnel more money to greedy corporations. That’s wrong, plain and simple,” added Julian. “The NDP, like most people, are sick and tired of billionaires getting handouts while regular British Columbians try to keep up. The Liberals have done nothing to stop this cycle, and the Conservatives want to ramp it up. But New Democrats want real relief for you, your family and your neighbours.”
