People with disabilities are making almost impossible choices to protect their benefits. They are foregoing living with, or leaving, their partners, getting married, or even moving in with a roommate because of claw backs. No one should have to choose between love and livelihood.
Under current claw back rules, people with disabilities risk losing access to essential benefits when they marry or cohabitate. Consecutive Liberal and Conservative governments have ignored this injustice and continue to income test using household income.
My Bill C-422, An Act to Amend the Canada Disability Benefit Act, offers the government an opportunity to address this inequity once and for all.
It’s time to demand change. Add your name to support people with disabilities across the country and tell the Prime Minister to end household income testing. People with disabilities deserve individual benefits.
